Horror Film poster Research & Analysis

Updated: Dec 12, 2018

The genre of our film trailer is Horror, so i have found some other Horror film posters and i am going to analyse them to see what i could include in my poster.

In the first poster (HUSH) there are two characters that have been photographed. Neither of them are in the middle however the woman, who is the main character, is placed in front of the mysterious man, and he's like a shadow behind her. Her eye is looking directly at the camera. Also there is a dark tone to the poster as there isn't much colour.

In the second poster ( A Quiet Place) The main character isn't in the center, but is in a bath that is in the lower section of the poster she has a either terrified or dead look on her face and is facing the wall. In the background it looks like a rough cabin and she's in the bathroom. It also looks like there is a a shadow in the door frame which could explain her facial expression and implies to the audience that is is a horror film.

The next poster is for the film Don't Breathe. This poster also has a dark tone as there isn't much colour to it either. The first thing i noticed in the poster was the large house in the background which looks abandoned and then the three character in front of it, who look like they are walking towards it. Finally there are a pair of eyes which look like they are from a old man and who could be possibly blind. The three people look like they have been layered onto the house and then the old man's eyes have been placed at the top and has had a gradient effect on it so it could blend smoothly onto the poster.

The fourth poster is for the horror film the exorcist. This film was released in 1973 so they wouldn't of had the editing software's we have now, however in the poster there is one character and he is just a silhouette from the lights coming from the house. The lights have a yellow tinge to them and the rest of the image is black and white which makes our eyes focus on the man.

The next poster is for the film The Forest. The one character is centered in the poster and this shows that she is the main character. In the background shes in a forest, the image of the forest is dark and foggy.

The final poster is for Cabin Fever. The whole poster is back and red, this could suggest that there is going to be a lot of blood in the film. The background shows a cabin in the woods, this sets the scene and supports the titles name being Cabin Fever. Also the trees in the background help create a skull shape in the sky from where they are placed.

Overall most Horror film posters show at least one character and they have a dark tone to them and use a small amount of colour.
